Scripture study

I honestly and truly have no idea where to even start with the amazing things I have read lately! For once in my life I am actually understanding the story behind the versus I am reading! It is AMAZING and I absolutely love it!! It feels like once I hit Mosiah I got sucked into the story and have continued to be sucked in! I'll share the things that have stuck out to me....

ALMA 30

Vs.60 Lays out perfectly what the whole chapter is about. "We see that the Devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell."

Korihor was deceived by the Devil. The Devil appeared to him in the form of an Angel. He taught the words of the Devil because they were pleasing unto the Carnal mind.
Alma kept trying to talk Korihor out of deceiving others and convince him that there is a God. Korihor kept asking for a sign and Alma said he has received many signs. Korihor still wanted another sign, so Alma said fine you shall be struck dumb. I found that quite humorous when I read it. That was Korihors testimony building moment. He realized God only had the power to make him not speak, so he believed. But he stayed that way so he wouldn't cont. to deceive others. He eventually died. The Devil is not there to help you at the end, he will decieve you slowly down to hell. God will ALWAYS be there!

ALMA 31

Vs.5 "And now, as the PREACHING OF THE WORD had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which is just-yea, it had had MORE POWERFUL EFFECT upon the minds of the people then the SWORD, or anything else, which had happened unto them - therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the WORD OF GOD."

That verse really stuck out to me! It is a testimony of how powerful the "word of God" is. It shows how powerful sharing out testimonies can be. It has more of an affect on people then a weapon. The word of God is powerful!!!

ALMA 33

Vs 4-11 Alma is rephrasing Zenos' prayer. In the prayer he said that God was "merciful" and "thou didst hear me" A lot. It is a true testimony of how merciful God is and how he truly does hear us!

I loved vs.11 "I will cry unto thee in all mine afflictions for in thee is my joy; for thou hast turned thy judgements away from me, because of thy son.

Vs 23 "That your burdens may be light, through joy of his son!" How amazing is that!????

ALMA 36

I was super excited when I read this chapter because I, for once in my life, made my own cross reference. As I was reading how Alma the younger was explaining to his son Helaman about how he gained his testimony when he was with the Sons of Mosiah seeking to destroy the church, I remembered how I had just read that in Mosiah. So I hurried and flipped back and found it in Mosiah 27. I was super excited that I had actually remembered and was able to go back and find where it was.

ALMA 37

Reading this chapter made me truly realize that the Book Of Mormon is for our day!!! Alma kept explaining to his son Helaman that "It is for a wise purpose that they are kept." That wise purpose is US!! Vs. 4 "They should be kept and handed down from one generation to another, and be kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord untill they should go forth unto every nation that they shall know the mysteries contained thereon."
I've gained a deep gratitude for these prophets of old. For there faith and diligence in keeping the commandments of God and following the spirit. Because of them, I've been able to gain a deeper understanding and testimony of this Gospel! They had SOOO much faith!

One night I randomly selected a conference talk from my phone and found a quote I absolutely LOVE! The talk was given by Douglas L. Callister during the Oct. 2000 conference.
"As we seek the spirit, our scripture reading becomes more reflective. We rediscover the virtue of slow reading. There is more reading aloud as, perhaps, the scriptures were meant to be read. Brigham Young said "All I have to do is...keep my spirit, feelings and conscience like a sheet of blank paper, and let the spirit and power of God write upon it what he pleases, when he writes, I will read; but if I read before he writes, I am very likely to be wrong."
I think that is a good note to end on! I absolutely love what Brigham Young said! I've never thought of it that way!

The Book of Mormon is TRUE! I honestly have no idea how I've gotten this far into it already. It's amazing to see that when you make it a priority in your life you are just able to keep going and some how sail right along. It has brought so much peace and comfort in my life. My testimony continues to grow each time I pick it up and read it! It is truly for our time and to help us get through this life! We must pick it up, read it and get to know it! If we make an effort to do it God will provide the knowledge and understanding that we need to gain at certain times in our lives! :D
